Bargins explains how retail discounting works, so you can time purchases well instead of reacting to whatever a deal feed pushed at you this morning.

Why we don’t list deals

Every other site in this category is a deal feed or a coupon database. Both need one of two things: a live inventory and pricing pipeline, or affiliate revenue.

We don’t have the first, and we’ve deliberately not taken the second. Without live data, publishing prices would mean guessing at them — and a guessed price is worse than no price, because it reads as fact. Without affiliate revenue, there’s no reason to tell you a coupon extension is worth installing when it mostly isn’t.

So we write the part that stays true: the calendar, the incentives, and the mechanics.

What’s on the site

• Timing guides — when each category predictably gets cheaper, and the structural reason why. Retail runs on a calendar; the calendar is knowable.
• Mechanism explainers — how coupon extensions, cashback portals, and price trackers are funded, and where their interests stop matching yours.
• Habits that compound — the small number of everyday tactics that add up to real money, and the popular ones that don’t justify the effort.

Our rules

• No prices or discount percentages. They date within days and we can’t verify them. We describe direction and timing instead.
• No affiliate links. No outbound links at all. Nothing here is a paid placement, and there’s no revenue attached to any recommendation.
• No invented testing. We have not price-tracked products ourselves, and we don’t publish research we didn’t do.
• We name companies only to explain how their model works — never to make claims about their conduct.
